Program

Dance of Jeonbuk Seeking Policy Discourse to Promote Dances of Jeonbuk Province

Known as the “home of traditional culture,” Jeollabuk-do region is a place where various traditional arts including vocal and instrumental musics and dance forms have been passed down. The region has produced numerous masters of traditional music and dance genres, and is home to various festivals such as Jeonju International Sori Festival, Jeonju Daesaseupnori, and the Festival of Asia Pacific Intangible Cultural Heritage. However, the dance scene of Jeonbuk area is in danger of disappearing despite the government's “K-Culture Strategy” and “Regional Cultural Revitalization” policies. In this context, Jeonju Internatioal Sori Festival Executive Committee and Society for Dance Documentation & History, together with dance experts and academic professionals, will try to diagnose the current scene in Jeonbuk region from various aspects such as the infrastructure of dance professionals, education, transmission, and performance, and to explore policy discourses in order to promote the dance scene of the region.
