Performance Introduction

Two Pansori Masters’ Lives of Sound-journey

Today, and a New Beginning

In August 1995, the TV program “KBS BigShow” featured Master Cho Sanghyeon and Shin Yeonghee under the title of “Cho Sanghyeon and Shin Yeonghee: The World with the Sound.” Their appearance at this concert show, which focused on popular music, documents how much they were widely-loved and respected. This year, about 30 years later, the two masters once again come to the stage together. It will be a privilege only for the visitors of the Sori Festival to witness this moving performance that reflects the lives of two great singers.

Program

Let’s Move up toward the Next Beyond the Hill of Sound!

Lee Wangsoo, the director of the closing concert of the 2024 Sori Festival, wants to highlight the life-story of the two great musicians of Cho Sanghyeon and Shin Yeonghee through their sounds. Also, he wants to capture the flow of traditional music within the flow of Korean history. In the performance, ten talented singers from the Jeonbuk area will join the two masters to depict the succession of traditional sounds into the future, crossing the boundaries between the artistic past and present. Park Sanghoo, conductor of the KBS Traditional Music Orchestra, serves as conductor and musical director for the performance. The high quality performance of KBS Traditional Music Orchestra will add richness and depth of sound.
