Distinctive Young Artists’ Pansori Stages
“Ode to Youth – Young Pansori,” stages for young artists with uniqueness, is held at the historic site of Jeollagamyeong (the local government office of the Joseon Dynasty era) where a tranquil and stylish atmosphere can be experienced. Let us feel the unique aesthetic of pansori through the passionate performances of talented young artists.
Lee Jeongin’s Dongcho-je Heungbo-ga
“Dongcho-je Heungbo-ga” is a tradition passed down from master Dongcho Kim Yeonsu to Oh Jeongsuk and Lee Ilju. Unlike dongpyeon-je style Heungbo-ga, which ends with the song of “Nolbo’s Chasing Swallow,” this dongcho-je one has a humorous addition in which pallbearers, mask dancers, itinerant performers, and beggars punish vice and reward virtue. It is characterized by its excellent dramatic structure, precise words, delicate expression and varied rhythmic variation. Lee Jeongin will perform a part of Heungbo-ga – from the part of “Heungbo’s Begging” to “Halving the Second Gourd.”
