The Jeonju Int'l Sori Festival 2025 prepared a special program of “Spain Focus” to commemorate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between South Korea and Spain. The “Spain Focus” is significant in that it marks the beginning of international exchange through performances. Lina Tur Bonet & Hong Seunga & Arend Grosfeld will present Baroque-era classical music in a traditional style Korean hanok house, and Vigüela will show Spanish folk music with its simple yet resonant sounds. In addition, Teatro Real will deliver a vibrant and dynamic flamenco performance. all these performances will offer an opportunity to experience diverse charms that reflect Spain's culture, history, and art.

Lively Folk Music Filled with the Rich Musical Heritage of the Iberian Peninsula

Vigüela, formed in the mid-1980s in Toledo, Castile-La Mancha of Spain, has been preserving the essence of Spanish folk music for over 30 years. While inheriting the rich musical heritage of the Iberian Peninsula, the group focuses on the exploration of the essence of traditional music rather than modern reinterpretation or deconstruction.

Their music, performed using traditional instruments such as manchego guitar, rebec, tambourine, and daily objects like frying pans and pots, brings the soundscape of life in village with families, neighbours, and friends onto the stage. Let us experience the joyful stage by Vigüela, where the deep and humble resonances rooted in the soil of the other side of the continent harmoniously meet the clapping sound!
