A Unique Stage that Blends Traditional Sypriot Music with Modern Touches

The trio “Monsieur Doumani” from Cyprus, located at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, creates a unique sound by blending the Tzouras (a stringed instrument that belongs to the bouzouki family), trombone, acoustic guitar, loop pedals, and various electronic music devices. Rooted in Eastern Mediterranean music, the band crafts their own sound with a unique style that occasionally evokes avant-garde folk, seamlessly blending traditional and modern elements.

The trio won the “Best Group” award at the UK Songlines Music Awards in 2019 and has performed at world-renowned festivals such as WOMEX, WOMAD, and SZIGET. Their performance will bring their lively yet sometimes unfamiliar sounds to the stage of the 2025 Jeonju International Sori Festival., which will be a rare opportunity to experience the Mediterranean psychedelic sound in which traditionality and futurity, reality and fantasy can be found together.
