The Vivid and Dynamic Beauty of Wadaiko Traditional Drum Performance
The Shiburi Chirimen Taiko will take the stage at the 2025 Jeonju International Sori Festival. Known for their fast-paced rhythms and precise sounds that captivate audiences, this group will showcase their performance of Wadaiko at the event. Wadaiko is a term that refers to a form of percussion music using traditional drums (taiko) - “wa” means Japan, and “daiko” means drum. It has been used for various situations since ancient times, including religious ceremonies, festivals, shamanic rituals, and military signals, and has evolved into a form of performing art in modern times. Generally, wadaiko refers to an ensemble between multiple types of drums in harmony. This performance will offer audiences a chance to experience the unique sounds and charm of drums of various sizes and shapes.
