Pansori Meets XR Technology
Immersive Performance that the Whole Family can Enjoy through Gaming
Archivers Studio is a production-studio that aims to fuse XR (extended reality) and music theater. The work unveiled at the 2025 Jeonju World Sound Festival, based on George Orwell's allegorical dystopian novel “Animal Farm,” explores questions on power, oppression, and human nature. The work was submitted to the “XR Distribution” market at the 2025 NewImages Festival in France, where it received attention for its showcasing the fusion of Korea’s unique sound and cutting-edge technology.
The festival performance is prepared as an innovative immersive show that reinterprets “Animal Farm” through pansori and combines it with XR technology. Featuring great traditional Korean musicians including Lee Bonggeun (pansori), Lee Hyuncheol (percussion), Kwon Seoyoung (gayageum), and Kim Somi (accordion), the performance offers a stunning musical experience. Audiences can choose their own animals using their smartphones and act freely in a virtual space to participate in the play. Additionally, guided by performers, audiences will be able to experience a unique world alongside the other animals within the farm. While enjoying the charm of traditional vocal music, audiences will be offered a distinctive opportunity to experience and think about the intersection of art and technology.
