Kim Yulhee is a pansori performer who covers various genres and always makes new attempts based on traditionality. With her well-trained voice and witty jaedam (storytelling), she masterly controls the stage so that her audiences laugh and cry alternately. In this festival performance, she offers Gangsan style Simcheong-ga with her refined voice that features moderated expression of feelings.
The Gangsan style that has been succeeded through Park Yujeon, Jeong Eungmin and Seong Wuhyang is named after Park Yujeon’s nom de plume. This style had been disseminated from Boseong-gun of Jeollanam-do province where Park Yujeon lived in his latter years in the late nineteenth century. Thus people often call it “Boseongsori.” This style features clear, neat, and controlled voicing and well-constructed musical flows.
