
'Chopin & Arirang', Korea/Poland Project
How would it be to blend 'Chopin', a Polish composer, and 'Arirang', the base of the profound spirit and emotion of Korea? Commemorating the 25th anniversary of the diplomatic relationship between Korea and Poland, the traditional music of both countries meets to paint a new picture. Maria Pomianowska, the Polish music director, will collaborate with Korean traditional musicians and instruments to share both cultures. This meaningful project was able to be carried out with the support of the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, which is deeply interested in Asian culture.

K-Pop Into the Traditional Project 1
Ha Kwang-Hoon, one of the top composers who has released so many hit songs such as 'Swamp', 'Back to You Again', 'Only Love,' 'Friends like Pleasant Rest', 'They May Need Our Love' and so on, will try to encounter Korean music. He is going to show fresh musical pieces covering all generations and different eras with top singers who enjoys their heydays now such as Ailee, Ju Hyunmi, Maya, and Bobby Kim. His new versions of traditional songs and their hit songs will be sung by top K-pop singers. This spectacular stage will be Ha's hit song parade.

K-Pop Into the Traditional Project 2
Shim Subong, descendant of the late Shim Hwayoung who was a master of the Junggoje style of Pansori, will stand on a stage of the Jeonju Int'l Sori Festival. She is a delicate vocalist who has her own distinctive voice. As she has been loved as a top singer as well as a sensitive singer-song writer, she will bring honor to the stage of the JISF with her songs from her newly released album. As a descendant of a master sori artist, her new songs are created with Korean musical instruments. Being born to a great gukak family that has produced several masters including the late Shim Hwayoung, and having learned gukak naturally, it is quite interesting to hear the style of music she has created by blending popular songs and Korean musical instruments.

K-Pop Into the Traditional Project 3
Deulgukhwa's legendary rocker Jeon Ingwon insists he's been inspired and influenced by Korean traditional music. He is a Korean music lover in that he learned 'danga' (short poems like sijo for singing). Jeon, one of the best rockers of our times, will visit the JISF waving his lion-like hair. Having unrivaled affection for traditional music, he has paid ceaseless attention to JISF. As such, his resolution to be on a stage of the JISF is quite different from others.

2014 Entertainers' Song - Tokki Taryeong (Song of a Rabbit)
This program is a series of 'Songs of Entertainers', a representative brand performance of the JISF aiming to make dedicated stages for masterpieces, master sori artists and masters of other cultural fields who have dedicated the past three years of their lives to arts. Year on year, it gathers more attention from the audience, and this year Pansori master Ahn Sukeon and other young sori artists have prepared for the stage. '2014 Entertainers' Song' is Ahn Sukseon's 'Tokki Taryeong', which she has reinterpreted Suggung-ga. It will give the audience a good chance to appreciate her old foxlike and mastery performance and sori.

Sori Frontier with KB Bank
An unrivaled contest to discover original Korean world music teams! Until last year, participants of the Sori Frontier program strived for mastery on the stage during the Sori Festival, but this year they have to compete in the preliminaries, which will be much fiercer than the final. 17 professional judges will pick the teams to go through to the final stage with much stricter and more difficult standards. With various perspectives, they will choose more competitive teams to find 'desirable Korean world music'. Much more dynamic preliminaries are expected!

Star
She is an actress who belongs to 'Taru', a gugak musical group, and is also a Pansori vocalist who has been in Tanemotion, a free-style gugak group. She has been chosen as a fellow of the 'intensive supporting project of prospective next generation artists' by the Korean Culture and Arts Committee. Through 'Gwon Songhee Pansori Project I, II, and III', with the strong support of the committee, she has been accredited as a promising Pansori singer-song writer who is good at not only composing and writing lyrics, but also performing. She doesn't hesitate to blend her Pansori with other genres like electro, triphop, etc. and always tries to show new styles of Pansori using effector equipment.
They are a musical group comprising four female musicians who use voice, as well as traditional percussion instruments, haegeum, keyboard, and all sorts of other percussion instruments. They are a creative musical group who originally gathered to reinterpret Korean traditional music and create more experimental and original works. While rooted in gugak, they do not want to be caught in it, and though experimenting boldly, they don't want to lose the essence of gugak.... which is why they enjoy rope-dancing. The Tune has tried to seek out traditional, primitive, old, and ancient forms of music and imbued their respective strength to make a special kind of music using images and stories.
Byuri Gugak Band is a musical group comprising Jeollabuk-do's young gugak artists from 2010. 'Byuri' means a strong rope which hooks a mesh of a net and can be drawn to fish. While tightly grabbing the byuri, Korean traditional music, they have tried to develop Korean music more stylishly. The new Korean music recreated by Byuri will spread throughout the world, for which purpose the band is trying hard to accomplish their dream.

Pansori Five Batangs
It is the most popular, representative program of the Jeonju Int'l Sori Festival, so early booking is strongly recommended. The stages of Pansori five batangs without the use of microphones instill an invigorating spirit between sori masters and the audience, just as if the old sori stages were revived. The revival will be vigorous and abundant, one which we can no longer enjoy on modern stages. Six sori masters, who have reached the highest level of skills and depth as sori artists, will show the best performances of their lives.

Sanjo Night
The committee of the Jeonju Int'l Sori Festival has decided to invite maestros of sanjo who were the winners of the World Music Awards at l'Academie Charles Cros in France with their respective albums for 'Sanjo Night' this year, which makes sanjo fans very excited. They, the representative sanjo masters, impressed the French world music industry. The world best sanjo players will allure the autumn moonlight of October with the background of Jeonju Hyanggyo. Masters Kim Hesuk (gayageum), Lee Jaehwa (geomungo), Park Hyeonsuk (gayageum), and Kim Yeonggil (ajaeng) will present the classical beauty of traditional string instruments.

Condensed skills, beauty of simpleness and innocence
Master Park is a professor of the music department, at the arts college of Seowon University. She is the leading master of 'Kim Jukpa style gayageum sanjo', which is the best of the best of Korean impromptu music, and 'Jeong Namhee's Hwang Byeonggi style gayageum sanjo'. After working as a member of the National Gugak Center, she became a solo player and her artistic accomplishment has been recognized through numerous domestic and international performances. Her Kim Jukpa style gayageum sanjo album received the world music award at the Académie Charles Cros in 2013, through which the originality of Korean music was recognized worldwide.

Outstanding interpretation and elegant play
Master Lee is the holder of geomungo sanjo, the 16th important intangible cultural property. She is one of the leading geomungo players. She has created numerous modern pieces of Korean music and also has the patent for geomungo improvement. Her Han Gapdeuk style geomungo sanjo played with her unique interpretation and noble play also received the world music award at the Académie Charles Cros in 2013, with which the essence of Korean music encircled the air in Paris, France, the home of the arts.

Great ability to interpret musical pieces and a logical and competent performance
Master Kim Haesuk, a well-known gayageum player, was the director of the Traditional Arts Institute of Korea National University of Arts and is now the director of the National Gugak Center. She has been well known as a representative Choi Oksan style gayageum sanjo player since her thirties and she has released several albums. Due to her remarkable ability to understand musical pieces and play them logically, she has made elegant performances with attractive melodies and emotional moderation. Her albums have been exported to 64 countries, which has been a good opportunity to spread sanjo to the worldwide musical world.

Elegant and stable superb play
Master Kim Yeonggil is the top ajaeng player with a strong base on general shamanistic and folk music. He plays modern and improvised musical pieces elegantly and stably. He works at the National Gugak Center and also teaches at Seoul National University and Korea National University of Arts. His Park Jongseon style ajaeng sanjo received the world music award at the Académie Charles Cros in 2013, and transmitted the values and attraction of ajaeng sanjo throughout the world.

With the Autumn banks of the Jeonju River, lofty Hanbyeokru in the background, and the eaves of hanok which resemble the toes of Korean traditional female socks, the awning of the stage, the 'Yong Pansori Five Batangs' will make the attraction and liveliness of young artists on a roll stand out. The stars of this year are Lee Soyeon (Jeokbyeok-ga), Yoo Taepyeongyang (Shimcheong-ga), Jo Heejeong (Chunhyang-ga), Lee Narae (Heungbo-ga), and Han Nari (Suggung-ga).
