‘Kim Hyeongseok with Friends’ is a special program which has gained in popularity, in which Kim Hyeongseok, one of the two commissioners, has tried to mix different music genres such as gugak and popular songs. Kim Hyeongseok with Friends, which has showed various fresh experiments to mix gugak with other music genres year after year and led a dramatic change in popular songs, will introduce the experienced profound music world of Choi Baekho and Shim Subong, who are proud of their romantic, appealing vocal features. In particular, the gugak-oriented arrangement of their songs will not only give us a great opportunity to experience their maturity and uniqueness, but also enable the audience to understand why they are loved so much.

Beautiful melodies of stringed instruments reverberate in the night sky over the beautiful lines of hanok roofs and walls. Every year, 'Sanjo Night', where visitors can enjoy a great performance of master musicians, has gained greater popularity with the audience.
The 2013 Sanjo Night provides a special chance to learn in one place, the songs, performances, and musical instruments that top masters of traditional instruments possess. On this stage, the audience can enjoy the performances of geomungo, haegeum, and sanjo of master Kim Youngjae who has a great talent for music. He learned a wide range of entertainment from an early age and also those of gayageum sanjo and byeongchang of Kang Jeongryeol who was born into the prestigious gugak family and has played the gayageum for 50 years.

Harmonious melodies of stringed instruments seem to dissipate, yet collect, and vice versa
Master artists living in Jeollabuk-do will show their ripened performance conversing with nature. Their melodies seem to scatter, yet converge and vice versa. Their performance is beyond human power and thus presents deep movement and wonder incorporating the depth of their own lives. The 'Sanjo Night' of the Sori Festival has increased in popularity as it has revived the archetype of its traditional performance in the background of hanok.
This year, the audience can enjoy a very rare chance to listen to a long stretch of sanjo from the best masters of Jeollabuk-do. Master Hwang Eunsuk's gayageum sanjo is exquisite in that her melody flows so naturally, and master Lee Hang-yun's large bamboo flute is proud in its clear and elegant melody. A special opportunity to enjoy the improvised melody of gayageum and the large flute sanjo!

'The 2012 Songs of Masters' adapted into a more cheerful and popular outdoor play
'Songs of Masters -- Dongli, Paulownia's Waiting for Phoenix' which was acclaimed in 2012 as a Creative Pansori Play is adapted into a form of 'madanggeuk' (outdoor play) for the audience to enjoy it more comfortably. As the general manager of 'Songs of Masters' showed very sincere directorship and new attempts last year, great attention is being paid to his challenge to transform the work into madanggeuk, which is relatively more popular than pansori. This work, which describes the life and love of Shin Jaehyo, who organized Pansori five batangs, displays how passionate he was and how seriously he agonized for the art of Pansori. It has been recognized as the brand 'musical play' of the Sori Festival. This year, the work will be transformed into madanggeuk to show a more brighter and popular work with more laughter, wit, and humor added. Including Wang Giseok, the representative Jeollabuk-do Pansori master, Ji Gihak, Bang Sumi, Jeong Minyoung, Kim Daeil, Jeong Seunghee, Son Jaeyoung, Lee Jaehak, Lee Jisuk, Pansori choir (Lee Gyeonghwa, Lee Gyeonglae, Park Serom), Heo Jin (Korean flute), Hwang Sanghyeon (percussion), and Kim Baekchan will be on the stage.

Master Jo Juseon has won various competitions such as the grand prizes at the National Gugak Contest and National Pansori Competition at Namwon Chunhyang Festival. She has performed on various stages inside and outside of Korea to enable Pansori to become known to the world. She has also tried hard to make gugak as well as Pansori popular, which is possible for her because she is adept at both theory and practice. Though she has attempted to show a variety of Pansori, this time, she is going to show an authentic, complete traditional Pansori.
A Unique Sori Master Who Can Make the Audience Laugh and Cry with Solid Sori
Master Kim Mina's Jeokbyeok-ga who has gained enough popularity to have a fan club
Master Kim Mina, who was awarded the Presidential prize in the Pansori master section in the 2008 Im Bangwool Gugak Festival, is a sori artist who ceaselessly studies about Pansori and trains herself. She is so competent that she has a big fan club. This stage is a great chance to enjoy Jeokbyeok-ga of master Kim who, with her own style, has ceaselessly tried to be the best sori artist. She follows the eastern form of Pansori, so the audience can appreciate the powerful and manly aspects of her Jeokbyeok-ga.

Master Park Jiyun (Park Bokhee), who is a leading figure on one axis of the Pansori industry, learned her sori from masters Yeom Geumhyang and Jo Sanghyeon. She has followed Boseong sori of Gangsan school. She won the grand prize in the master Pansori section of the Grand Chunhyang Gugak Competition in 2006.
As such, she has led a very active life in Gwangju and Jeollanam-do and her unique appealing abdominal vocal sound is her strong point. She will display a very exciting stage with her delicate, matured sori which has emanated from her long period of elaboration.

Master Mo, who overwhelms the audience with her long trained sori coming out of her small body, is a sori artist who succeeds to Jeong Jeongryeol's Chunhyang-ga most perfectly. Also, inherited from her mother, master Choi Seunghee, she has a proud, moderated, dignified, and elegant vocal sound which is emotional and lyrical. Master Mo's delicate, neat, and lovely voice is ready for the audience. It is a great opportunity to appreciate a new style of Chunhyang-ga.

Sori artist Kim Mijin, as is often the case with a young artist in their twenties, has tried to popularize Korean sori and gugak through gugak musical, traditional music plays for children, as well as Pansori. She learned from master Jeong Sun-im. She is so competent a sori artist that she received the grand prize in the master section of the National Gugak Competition. Recently she finished a full performance of Heungbo-ga so successfully that she was recognized as an artist of ability, which has advanced her a step further.

She has been paid so great attention from the gugak industry that she was selected as a next generation artist of 2011-2012 by the Korea Culture & Arts Committee, and was chosen as one of 'ten young artists leading the next generation' by Gaekseok, a monthly magazine. As such, she is a very sensitive sori artist with her own uniqueness. She is one of the next generation masters and has always tried to incorporate sincerity into her artistry and musicality in order to create newer and better sori that our times can sympathize with. For her, the challenge for succession to and the progression of tradition and free creativity is ceaseless.

As son of Kim Ilgu and Kim Youngja, a sori master artist couple, Kim Dohyeon has listened to and watched various kinds of traditional arts since young. Thus, he started performing sori and playing instruments when he was very young. He was the youngest prize winner of the stringed instrument of President in Grand National Gugak Festival for Silla Cultural Heritage. He was also recognized as a sori artist. Kim Dohyeon! He is still devoting himself to sori training. His strong and manly sori will present a very real and thrilling stage.
